On 8th November 2006 Halifax County Court granted a debtor's petition for bankruptcy to Helen Gavaghan. The case number is 326 of 2006. Helen Gavaghan as a sole trader ceased to trade on 8th November 2006. Since May 2005 Helen Gavaghan has traded occasionally also under the name GavaghanCommunications. The name was registered with HMRC in May 2006. Helen Gavaghan has no bank account in the name of GavaghanCommunications.
On 9th November Helen Gavaghan, with the knowledge of the official receiver, resumed her self-employed status as a publisher, editor, journalist and writer. She is seeking full or part-time employment.
Helen Gavaghan, in compliance with the law, is no longer the director of Science, People & Politics Ltd, though she continues to be the major shareholder. Adrian Broadbent is the Company Secretary and minor share holder.
Fred Pearce, who consented to accept the appointment as co-director, is now the company's director.
The Company is not trading. It has no bank account. As the founding director Helen Gavaghan has notified HMRC that the company is dormant. Any action taken by the director without the consent of the shareholders that could be interpreted as making the company other than dormant would lead to the director's dismissal by the shareholders.
The majority of my debt is held by the following financial institutions:
Nat West Plc,
Royal Bank of Scotland,
MBNA Europe Ltd.,
Lloyds TSB, and
Alliance & Leicster.
The total owed to these bodies is £31,741.
AOL Inc. holds a debt of £107.94.
Three personal friends, each of whom was aware of the difficulties I would face in repaying loans, are owed among them £950. One has offered to waive her debt, but that is not possible to allow because she is included on the debtor's petition.
British Gas is owed an unknown sum, but consistently for a year, despite my efforts and those of others, has refused to put the bill in my name. I would urge them to do so as soon as possible, so that the Official Receiver can be made aware of the debt, and can determine priorities in repayment.

These are to my knowledge my only debts.
If anyone knows differently I would be grateful if they could let me know at the earliest opportunity.
The intention is to seek permission from the Woolwich to keep my instant cash account (which has no cards or cheque book attached to it) open so that money of interest to the Official Receiver (including working tax credits from HMRC) can be paid into that account. Crossed postal orders will be used to pay bills.
The Official Receiver has set the date for an appointment during which I will tell her of the reasons for financial and spending decisions and factors affecting my behaviour from the financial years of 2001-2002 to date, and provide her with all the paperwork she has requested.
My report to her will be made available also to the ICO responsible for fully contextualising CRB checks.
My spending decisions fall into two broad categories:well planned sensible and flexible strategic decisions from January 2002 up to January 2004.
I was committing no crime, planned no crime and was in no way attempting to defraud or mislead anyone when my plans all fell apart for reasons that as far as I know only the WYP have the authority to figure out.
My report to the Official Receiver will look also at decisions after January 2004. I had no idea what so ever what was being said and done without my knowledge and consent in the early part of 2004, things which were having a devastatingly negative impact on my life but which I could not fight because no-one would explain to me officially what was being said and done and why.
It is these post-January 2004 events, which have created three years of abject misery and stress, needlessly and stupidly destroyed nearly all of the options I had earned for my future, treated as worthless all of my professional and personal life up to that time, have denigrated my citizenship and abused my human rights and created a false and misleading medical record, which would appear to have led to the Police ignoring my allegations of what I have come to see were much more serious crimes against myself than I realised.
I have in addition sworn on oath that what I wrote in paperwork that was submitted to the judge granting the above petition was true. I have written that I recall quite clearly what was said to me by a solicitor about how her firm had no-one dealing with National Security, criminal law or litigation and that that solicitor then refused to explain her words. Indeed she has denied them. She wrote to tell me that further to our conversation I should consult another firm. I did not know what to consult them about because I knew nothing of National Security.
It was those words, which a journalist would almost never expect to hear in the context of the need for her to seek legal advice and certainly not in the manner I did, and which had nothing to do with any story I have or had worked on, which led me to attempt to hand over all my contacts to the Police. They refused these. I do not know why. The solicitor also refused to explain why she said what she did. That refusal and lack of discussion with me was unhelpful. I remain convinced that those bodies and very senior people who I have dealt with professionally, many of which and whom have access to classified information related to National Security, would never have allowed me anywhere near such information. And I question what events led to the solictor's words, and if they were motivated by a desire to distract from crime and do what they have done, deprive me of what I was working for and aspired to.
It seems to me that there was little assumption by anyone in 2004 of honesty, competence and good intentions by myself and of minimal prejudice by myself. I question whether the silence and lack of acknowledgment with which the police have reacted to all I said, especially in 2005 and 2006, was intended to be emotionally abusive of me or whether people were simply not thinking. In conjunction with the false Medical record and loss of my future that silence and disingenuous meaningless responses pushed me to the place of desperation in which I used bad language when dealing with the Police. Some of that bad language was aimed at myself because it seemed I was being treated as worthless trash whom it was just fine to stalk and drug. It seems to me that the Police think that morally the bad language they have elicited from me in desperation is worse than me having been, as I allege, drugged acutely on at least two occasions and possibly at a low level on other occasions, as well as psychologically traumatised by events such as an unknown person moving my bed or leaving other such evidence of entry to the places I have lived and worked, as well as pilfering from my car or handbag or my handbag itself (an event caught on cctv). West Yorkshire Police not taking me seriously has meant I have had to use on occasions bad language. But throughout this time they and their support staff have been unbelievably rude. I have been called a crazy bitch, mental or a nasty piece of work.
Prior to January 2004 I had between the ages of 17 and 47 done the following extra curricula things: been a Samaritan for three and a half years, worked as a school mentor, I had headed an anti-smoking campaign after my father's death when I was only 17, I had at University visited with pleasure an elderly lady in need of practical help. I had been a pretty hopeless member of the Officers' Training Corps for a very short time, I had been an MOC (shop steward), president of the Leeds University Biophysics Society, and a volunteer teacher for the science section of something called the GED when I lived in the US. I contributed to fund raising activities and I still do some volunteer work. I list these things not because they make me in any way special. Many many people volunteer, but because I resent the manner in which my life was destroyed in 2004 and the manner in which my pain and distress were treated and because I resent that no-one is prepared to believe my allegations of crime and that my efforts to do what I understood as a journalist to be the rigth thing to do in light of any mention of National Security being mentioned were rebuffed. In 2004 I was treated with cruelty and official abuse and silence and as if I did not exist.

I would like to thank Astronomy Now and Hospital Imaging and Radiology Europe for bending their payment practice in 2006 in my favour to ensure I was paid more promptly than usual. Though they did not succeed those actions might have helped me to stave off bankruptcy.
I would like to thank NatWest for advise. There was a strong possibility in Mid 2005 that I might have been able to stave off bankruptcy.
I would like to thank NatWest and financial insitutions for the professionalism they have brought to the past four months, and I hope that that professionalism will continue in co-operation with the Official Receiver.
And, though West Yorkshire Business Link may not in the circumstances appreciate the thanks, I would anyway like to thank them for their best efforts and seminars. In particular they absorbed without judgement or denial some of my extreme distress and without knowing of the factors that were at the time confusing and distracting me from focussing fully on saving my business.
I would like potential advertisers in the Title Science, People & Politics (ISSN:1751-598X) to know that the price structure for 2007-2008 will be the same as for the financial year 2006-2007. The intent is to move in May 2007 to the eCommerce option offered by HostingByRegister.com. GavaghanCommunications continues as publisher of the title and for now will be responsible for sales on behalf of the title. There are no plans for financial internet transactions for the title. However, the eCommerce option will mean that the webstatistics, and thus any idea about who might be visiting the domaine, will be strictly confidential and known -- if they can be discerned -- only to GavaghanCommunications and HostingByRegister.com. GavaghanCommunications will not be undertaking sales on the basis of webstatistic information, but will be targetting publicly named directors and the appropriate staff of companies in the sectors with which the title is interested in doing business.
None of my debt was incurred with the intent either of founding Science, People & Politics Ltd. (not trading), nor the title Science, People & Politics (ISSN:1751-598X).
