1980-1983
During this time I worked for Building Services and Environmental Engineer, Electrical Times (was closed), Electrical Review and then Electrical Review International, commissioning articles for the new launch.
These publications fall under the heading of trade and technical. As I recall they were controlled-circulation, rather than subscription based. Whilst working for Building Services and Environmental Engineer
I followed the N.C.T.J. training course informally with my editor, and the company paid for training on the job
to be enhanced by courses at the London College of Printing. No shorthand, but plenty of experience during my degree taking long hand notes, and very little exposure then to Courts. That was all a long time ago, and, as with any trade and profession, I have learned a lot since then, on the job.
During my time at Electrical Times I wrote the rewind column for the trade.
At Electrical Review International, though the assistant editor,
I commissioned, mostly unsupervised, most of the features for the early issues of what was a new launch. I was acting, because of circumstances, as deputy editor (pre launch).
For four months in 1981 I was a technical writer based in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. So I probably wrote the instructions on how to operate your alarm clock, or some such.
